Within the past month I was asked to do a medical intuitive reading for a woman from California who was scheduled to attend a healing retreat in Costa Rica.
The shaman in Costa Rica, for whom I do medical intuitive readings for his clients from all over the world before they arrive, had wanted me to take extra care given that this lady had reported being so ill.
Indeed the initial form I received included a long list of ailments in addition to an equally detailed account of her natural healing remedies and the innumerable therapies she had tried up to that point.
She reported having been very ill her entire life.
As sick as the report said she was, as I did my medical intuitive reading, I discovered that at the soul level she was equally strong.
“Do not treat her like the fragile creature she thinks she is,” I advised the shaman in Costa Rica. “Help her to remember her soul strength.”
About this time a long-term client walked into my office and announced, “Catherine, I have to admit that I am a depressed person.”
Indeed, she had endured years of unrelenting stress in literally every aspect of her life.
Nevertheless I demurred.
This client is a brilliant woman. Carefully, thoughtfully and in great detail she and I had worked together to overcome these challenges – health obstacles, financial fiascos, marital woes, career conundrums, relationship heartbreaks, parenting disputes all so great it would have made the strongest person stop to question herself.
And in each and every case she had come out on the other side shining.
“Hold on for a minute,” I replied to her.
“I know you very well and you are not a naturally depressed person.
“Can you feel the difference between saying, ‘I feel depressed’ and ‘I am a depressed person?’
“You have overcome many obstacles but you have never made being happy your primary goal. Nobody around you is happy. You have just never learned how.”
Last story, I promise.
About 26 years ago a friend of mine heard about a local class in positive thinking.
“That’s silly,” I remember thinking to myself at the time, “everybody knows you’re supposed to think positively.”
Yes, that’s true. We all do know that positive thinking is better for us than negative thinking.
However the very next day I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which basically meant that just about everything was wrong with me. Every organ system in my body was malfunctioning and had been for quite some time.
I immediately signed up for the class in positive thinking.
As I took the class I created a collage of everything I wanted to create in my life and hung it on the wall where I could see it every day. The collage reminded me I wanted to make a big difference in the lives of others. I remember walking around repeating a mantra, “I am radiantly healthy.”
Flash forward to me now, age 60.
Indeed if you met me today you would not be able to discern the multiple health challenges I have overcome. I would share a photograph of me in a bikini but modesty holds me back. You will just have to imagine a woman well past middle age who radiates health and happiness.
My mentor in healing, Sue Maes, even told me about 10 years ago, “Catherine, you were the sickest client I have ever had. Most people would have just given up.”
“Give up” has never been part of my vocabulary, self talk or thought process.
This relentless inner tenacity is part of what empowers me to coach people who have been sick since the day they were born to amazing levels of health and happiness.
Please allow me to share with you my secrets as a medical intuitive healer about how to focus your mind to create the life you love.
Focus on what you want to create, not the problem.
When I published my book, Unlimited Energy Now, I could have easily titled it, “How to Overcome Adrenal Burnout.”
Being the intentional author who I am, however, I named the book what I wish for every reader, Unlimited Energy Now.
In other words, rather than fighting the war of exhaustion – a battle that assumes your resources are limited – I proclaimed from the outset that you have the capacity to connect with an endless supply of chi that you can use for your highest good as well as the benefit of all others.
Yes, this book explains in great detail what adrenal burnout is, the three stages of adrenal exhaustion and what you might be experiencing should you find yourself in this predicament.
I also detail how even in your most wiped-out state you constantly have access to the inner resources that can connect you to unlimited energy.
A long time ago one of my professors from Brown University put it to me simply.
“Writing is thinking,” he explained.
In other words, the more clearly you can think the more eloquently you will be able to write.
I would have to add the corollary, “Good health is clear thinking.”
To be very specific:
- Instead of fighting cancer, create wellness. As Mother Theresa said, “I will never attend an anti-war rally; if you have a peace rally, invite me.” You will never win a war – especially not a battle in your own mind. You build up a vision of disease as this nasty, deadly monster coming to kill you. Stop scaring yourself dead!
- Instead of battling depression, choose happiness. You make a choice every day of your life. What if in every decision you ever made you included the criteria, “I choose what leads me to my greatest happiness.” You think that being rich, famous or having an easy life will make you happiest. That may or may not be true. When you make your own personal happiness the ultimate goal everything else in your life falls lines up behind that. Choosing to become a happy person may be the least selfish decision you ever make because when you overflow with joy you have the inner resources to be a light of love to everyone around you.
Visualize the outcome you desire in complete detail.
A long time ago I realized I was intuitively doing something incredibly wise with my finances.
Aside from the fact that I am debt-free, that I own my house, my car and have investments at Morgan Stanley, facts that empower me to do pretty much whatever I please while also continuing to work as a medical intuitive healer, write books and serving others, I do something very specific.
I visualize that every Friday at the end of the working week that I have a certain amount of money in my business account.
I literally see this amount in my mind’s eye as it would naturally appear in my Quickbooks bookkeeping system.
It’s a reasonable amount, not a ridiculous amount.
It’s an amount I can comfortably make in a week without overworking or overcharging any of my clients.
Sometimes in life we are unconsciously competent.
In other words, at times you may discover yourself doing something incredibly well without realizing it, just by listening to your own inner guidance.
Even during slow weeks in business or when I am preoccupied with other tasks such as writing my books or when I have a lot of expenses I generally manage to discover that amount of money in my Quickbooks by Friday afternoons.
Once I recognized what I was doing, I thought to myself, “Well why don’t I do this with larger amounts of money?”
I would simply visualize my Morgan Stanley statements as they would appear in my mailbox once a month with a certain amount printed out in the line summarizing my total investments.
The process was so easy and occurred so rapidly I have re-set the total amount to a higher figure again and again.
I have shared this secret with countless people over and again but I’m not sure everybody I told this to recognizes the power they have at their own personal disposal.
Now does this mean that if you think you may be facing cancer, are feeling depressed or find yourself flat broke that you never go to the doctor, talk about what’s really bothering you or reflect on the mistakes you made that caused your finances to go into free fall?
No, of course not.
Face reality in all its gory detail.
Do the lab tests.
Allow yourself to hear the diagnosis.
Speak the truth of what has really been driving you crazy to someone you trust to hold your feelings with deepest compassion.
Read every line of your bank statements.
And then give yourself permission to make a choice.
Do not remain the victim of your circumstances. Focus your very strong mind completely on the reality you choose to create.
Remember that whatever you focus your mind will actually expand.
Why expand your disease, your misery and the endless cycle of struggle when you can cultivate a life equal only to your personal capacity to imagine?
What is healing? Healing happens when you learn to focus your mind to create the life you love.

Thanks, that was inspiring at a very personal level of taking care of our finances and focusing our mind on creating the life we love. However, I am still working desperately to establish myself with those basics you mentioned through being an Indie Author on Amazon. Still learning the ropes to breakthrough. Thanks for being so inspirational with your life.
Dear Portia, Thank you so much for reading my blog! I truly understand. As an author every time we write a book we literally start with nothing – a blank page. Yesterday I attended an incredible webinar hosted by John Hodgkinson about book marketing. It was the latest greatest information about everything that we as indie authors can do to get the word out about our books. He is hosting another webinar next weekend. I listened in for 5 1/4 hours before taking off to hang out with my friends. I’m happy to pass along your information to John if you feel you might benefit. The cost was incredibly reasonable – $127 – and he included an in-depth manual and a few other bonuses. Hope that helps! Love and light, Catherine Carrigan
Thanks,on the webinar suggestion. However, right now with financial limitations, I am still on the tight budget of promoting my writings. So, just hold on, I am still figuring it out. Thanks.
Catherine, so honestly and beautifully expressed. So many people need this timeless advice, especially now. I need to remind myself of the transformative power I possess in my words and in my thoughts. Due to my own journey with adversity in childhood and chronic health issues, I understand how challenging it is to think about those things that we want, rather than what our current circumstances may be. Yet, this is truly our tool for having the life we want. Your words are inspiring to those who have not yet discovered the personal power within. Going through plenty right now so thank you for this timely reminder!
Hi Mary, Thank you so much for reading my blog! 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone I know. Last night the remnants of Hurricane Zeta tore through Atlanta, knocking out power to millions of Georgians and felling trees all over the city. I feel we all need to pull together to get through this challenging time and my writing is one way I feel I can contribute to the lives of others. Glad this article helped! Love and light, Catherine Carrigan
