How to Keep the Shadow from Ruining Your Life

“One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” Carl Jung

Although you may want to be guided by your Higher Self, you may find the unknown, dark side of your personality getting in the way.

If I were to describe my work as a medical intuitive healer, I would say it’s like reading a book.

I have to read the words on the page.

Not the words I think are written.

Not the words the author wants to be written.

But what is actually there.

The great psychologist Carl Jung wrote at length about the unconscious aspects of the personality.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” Carl Jung

It’s easy to get fooled by the shadow – both your own and other people’s shadow.

Here are a few methods I’ve learned that can help you keep the shadow from ruining your life.

“Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people.” Carl Jung

Circle with an X. This simple energy tool comes from Therapeutic Energy Kinesiology developed by Dr. Adrian Brito Babapulle. I had the privilege of studying with Dr. Brito Babapulle in England in May of 2018. You can watch my interview with him for the Natural Healing Show for UK Health Radio at this link.

When I’m working with clients in person, I begin by checking numerous energy points including your shadow point.

Your shadow point is an energy center on your left temple at the side of your left eye.

If I am muscle testing this shadow point and I discover your shadow to be in charge, I will simply draw a circle over the point with an X through it.

This tells your shadow to take a hike so that I can communicate with your Higher Self.

Dr. Brito Babapulle advises healers to check their own shadow point before we begin our work.

If you want your Higher Self to be in charge, simply draw a circle with an X over your left temple.

“The most dangerous psychological mistake is the projection of the shadow onto others: this is the root of almost all conflicts.” Carl Jung

Recognize your own archetypes. In my office I have a long list of archetypes that may be running your show.

The medical intuitive Carolyn Myss wrote at length about archetypes and has created a deck of 80 archetypes.

For starters, everybody has an Inner Child, Victim, Prostitute and Saboteur.

Some of your archetypes may help you feel sexy, powerful, glamorous, important. You may even fool yourself that you are your archetype or that your archetype is your soul purpose.

After all, who doesn’t have fun being the King, the Queen, the Damsel in Distress, the Visionary, the Poet, the Healer or the Rebel?

The way I like to explain it is this.

If you go down to the theater and try out for the part of Blanche Dubois in Streetcar Named Desire, you put on the costume and speak the lines but you are not actually Blanche. You are playing a role.

Other people may even tell you that you are the very best Blanche Dubois they have ever seen. You may have a great time being Blanche. But at the end of the day you want to hang up the dress and stop talking that way.

As much as possible, you want your True Self to be in charge.

That’s because you are a soul who has a body. Your soul has a mission to complete in this lifetime. When you listen to your soul, you can be guided gently from within to all that leads to your greater good.

Allowing your shadow to rule is the root of all self destruction.

When you practice recognizing when your own archetypes are taking over it’s easier to observe when other people are living  from their shadow selves.

“Anyone who perceives his shadow and his light simultaneously sees himself from two sides and thus gets in the middle.” Carl Jung

Visualize yourself in a Holy Temple.

Recently I was consulted by a woman who had been conned out of a large amount of money.

I was able to identify in the first session that the man who had conned her was not in integrity.

She wanted to give him a piece of her mind but both her lawyer and I advised her to get out of the situation as quickly as possible.

“When you meet a bear in the woods you don’t stand there and scold him that he’s big, hairy and ugly,” I explained to her. “You get out of there as quickly as possible.”

Unfortunately the truth is that there are people in the world whose sole aim is to take your money, your good intentions, your brilliant ideas and everything you hope to use for a higher purpose.

These sorts of people know the game they are playing.

They do everything in their power to hide who they are and what they are really up to.

When you are wanting to see other people’s shadow, visualize both yourself and the other person in a Holy Temple.

Shut your eyes and imagine yourself in God’s House. Say a prayer and call in all your angels and all your spiritual guides. Ask for assistance to be shown who is really there and what is actually going on.

Then imagine yourself playing a game of hide and seek.

Look behind every column in the church.

Set your intention to see the shadow of the other person.

See what you see. Hear what you hear.

Then use that information to guide your true path.

The only way to live in the light is by constantly knowing where your shadow is and by being aware of the shadows of other people.

“Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” Carl Jung

What is healing? Healing happens when you know where your shadow is and choose to live in the light of higher understanding.

  1. This sounds interesting. It is very enlightening especially on the power of knowing your shadow.

    • Thank you so much for reading Portia! We have to be compassionate with ourselves and others because everybody has a shadow!
